Doctors save boy with DNA sequencing

Nicholas Volker, a six year old boy suffering from a dangerously inflamation of the intestine was saved by using the DNA Sequencing.
The boy was dying because of this problem, although the doctors removed his colon. The cause of his problem was unknown, so the doctors from the Medical College of Wisconsin tooked a desperate decision: they used DNA sequencing to save Nicholas.

So, they found a mutation in the ADN and they made a bone marrow with cells taken from the ombilical cord blood. Nicholas is better now although he is taking pills for the organism to accept the transplant.

This is the first case solved with the help of the DNA sequencing.

What’s the DNA Sequencing?
This is a next generation development in the genetical medicine. It’s purpose it’s to determine the order of the nucleotide bases – adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine – in the DNA molecule.
